Guriltai Shul (Mongolian Soup Noodles)

500g beef steak, sliced (I used eye fillet)

1 tablespoon canola oil

2 potatoes, peeled and 2cm dice

1 turnip, peeled and 2cm dice

1 carrot, peeled and finely diced

8 teaspoons beef stock powder

2 litres water

400g flat rice noodles (such as pad thai noodles)

Serve with

Soy sauce, chili sauce, or chili oil

Mongolian soup noodles, are a mutton based soup served with noodles and root vegetables.

 

This is a traditional dish which originated in Mongolia, once again using root vegetables which are readily grown in Mongolia and mutton. This is considered a comfort food during winter.

Equipment you need

frypan and tongs

large pot and stirring utensil

4 bowls for serving
